5 Minutes with… So Floral

3 words to describe your business

Fresh, Creative, Personal

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had from a customer?

A wreath in Burnley colours for a Father-In-Law who supported Blackburn Rovers!  A standing joke within the family, apparently…!    We love unusual requests – including incorporating scissors & a comb for a re-opening hairdresser, and creating a bespoke buttonhole for an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding

How have you adapted during the COVID-19 situation?

It was tough being shut for 3 months!  We’ve made changes to make people who come into the shop feel safe & have been working on a website – watch this space. Although we have been busy with people ordering something special for those loved ones they aren’t able to go and see in person. We love to help share the love.

Your favourite thing to do in Burnley?

We live in a beautiful part of the world and have some fab local restaurants on our doorstep.  Everything from Michelin starred The White Swan at Fence (yum!), to JJ’s Diner – now at the Dudgdale Arms, where the ‘Uncle Dave’s’ breakfast is a personal favourite!

Your favourite business in Burnley (aside from your own!)?

It has to be SPE Furnishings.  I love the ethos that they have to provide low prices on great furnishings & white goods.  They even partner with an ethical credit union so people can avoid crippling finance repayments & every sale contributes to their support of the local foodbank – just brilliant.

What made you start your own business?

I needed a new challenge after being in Corporate HR for most of my career.   I decided to take the plunge, unleash latent creativity & follow my passion, by re-training, buying a business and jumping in with both feet.   Exciting!

Why do you like being based in Burnley/Padiham?

I love the sense of community in Padiham!  There’s some great local businesses – The Hardware Store (who can supply anything you might need!), the fab Mooch Café, That Girl Who Bakes, Turtle Bee and Chip off The Old Block.  The current road & pavement improvements will transform the centre when they are completed too 😊

Words of advice for people starting up their own business?

You’ll find it hard work at times, but never forget the passion that’s driving you.  Keep a good work/life balance, and shout loud about your achievements.  You can do it!
